Lotus Planting Instructions
Plant this lovely, sacred lotus in a wide (18-30 inches) or wider container with heavy loam soil. Dig a trench across the surface of the soil and place the lotus tuber in the trench, being careful not to damage the growth tips. Cover the tuber with an inch or two of soil while keeping the growth tips exposed. Add two to four inches of water over the surface of the soil and place the container outdoors in full sun (8+ hours of sunlight daily). In a week or two you will have aerial leaves growing on the surface of the water. DO NOT FERTILIZE! A week or two after the coin leaves appear, you will have aerial leaves growing out of the water.
Fertilizing Lotus
Once you have aerial leaves, you may fertilize once a month from June through September, as these are the growing/blooming months of a sacred lotus. Simply press four (4) slow release fertilizer tablets about one inch deep into the soil of the lotus plant, being careful not to damage the lotus plant roots.
