In a career spanning four decades as a sport journalist with the East Anglian Daily Times, Ipswich Star and Green ‘Un, Nick Garnham met and interviewed a host of international celebrities, national treasures and local personalities. This is his story.

From sporting legends, to international managers and coaches, plus players from his local Essex County Cricket and Ipswich Town Football Clubs, he recalls not only the stories but the often untold tales behind them.

These include how he signed up an ex-international striker for £50 a week, got one-to-one interviews with one past and one future England football manager while still studying at college and stained the carpet of one of football’s hard men!

There’s also his bizarre fall-out with one of England’s best-loved cricketers, how a match was settled in an exam hall and how an international umpire took the players back out because a tea lady was not ready.
