What makes aged Chen Pi special

  • Natural ageing: Over time, the sharpness of fresh mandarin peel mellows into a sweeter, more rounded citrus profile.
  • Layered aroma: Expect warm citrus, honeyed sweetness, light herbal depth, and a gentle bitter edge that keeps the cup balanced.
  • Caffeine-free: Chen Pi is dried citrus peel, not tea leaves, so it works as an evening infusion or a citrus addition to other teas.
  • Traditional pairing: In Chinese tea culture, aged mandarin peel is often brewed after meals or paired with ripe pu-erh for a richer, deeper cup.

Traditional herbal uses are not medical claims. If you're pregnant, on medication, or managing a health condition, check with your GP before introducing a new herbal tisane.

Why Xinhui Chen Pi is valued

  • Distinct origin: Xinhui's coastal climate and alluvial soil produce mandarin peel with a recognised aromatic profile.
  • Traditional craftsmanship: The peels are carefully selected, sun-dried, and aged using long-established methods.
  • Aged since 2016: Ageing transforms the flavour from sharp and bright to sweet, complex, and rounded.
  • Geographical indication region: Xinhui is the best-known origin for Chen Pi and is recognised for this specialty.

How to enjoy it

  • Brew on its own: Use 1/3 piece for a 200-400ml teapot. Brew with boiling water for 3 minutes. Re-steep up to 3 times.
  • Add to ripe pu-erh: A small piece of Chen Pi adds warm citrus depth to earthy ripe pu-erh.
  • Thermos method: Add a small piece to hot water and sip slowly through the afternoon.

A traditional choice for afternoon and after-meal tea routines, with a gentle warming character.

Storage

Store in an airtight container in a cool, dark place away from light, moisture and strong odours.

Try it in our Evening Collection

I've included this tea in our Evening Sample Pack because it is caffeine-free and gives a citrusy, aromatic option alongside other evening teas.

Beware: NOT the complete treatise.
Format: Paperback, Format: Paperback
The translation is fairly good and then ... you come to note on pg 70 that says basically, "Oh, did we tell you that we skip all of Questions 101 through 104 and large parts of 100 and 105?" Nope. So you do NOT get the entire "Treatise on Law" -- and they hide that fact. (I have seen other translations, but never have I seen one that excludes any of the questions. Now I'm stuck with an incomplete version. Thanks. One last thing: the paper quality is poor. Just about any pen you use for annotations will bleed through. The paper is CHEAP.
