ABOUT the ART 

These canvases have been inspired by the frescoes found in the rock fortress of Sigiriya. Located in Northern Matale District near the town of Dambulla in the Central Province of `Sri Lanka, this fort is of historical and archaeological significance. The same can be said for the paintings found on the walls and ceilings. 

Many have said that the entire hill looks like a painting! The painting style used to create the frescoes are very unique. Every line is painted so that it can add volume to the figure. The wall art was created by putting pressure on one side of the stroke to add a deeper tone towards the edge. It has been tough to identify the women in these paintings, but one thing is for sure; the painting style may be similar to Anuradhapura paintings, but they are not the same.
