He wears a thobe (long shirt), a headscarf (ghutra) topped with agal (head ropes), and has a khanjar (dagger) tucked into his cartridge belt. On the far left, behind the man, is a couched camel. In the background a flat plain of rocky sand, almost entirely bare of vegetation, spreads out into the distance.

This image was taken during April 6-30, 1948, when Wilfred Thesiger stayed at Al Muwaiji fort in Al Ain as a guest of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
