Іван Багряний (1906—1963; справжнє прізвище?— Лозов’ягін) — український письменник, який зазнав жорстокості сталінських репресій. Митця було ув’язнено, заслано до Далекого Сходу, потім була еміграція. Лише після своєї смерті він був реабілітований, став лауреатом Шевченківської премії 1992 року, і його книги почали перевидавати в Україні.До збірки 'Крокви над табором' увійшли короткі прозові твори: оповідання, новели, статті та інші. Від оповідань 'Крокви над табором', 'Нова Рябина' (1931) про успіхи колективізації українського села до листа-памфлета  'Чому я не хочу вертатись до СРСР?' (1946) з критикою більшовицької влади відбулася різка метаморфоза світогляду письменника, і саме за це радянська влада забороняла його твори.
