About
YU CHANG @yuchang106 is a Taipei-based photographer and graffiti artist, born in 1989.
His photographic journey began as a way to document his own graffiti. To avoid having his images checked by the police, he started shooting on film. Through that process, he discovered the deeper appeal of photography—and soon began photographing not only the graffiti scene, but also moments from his everyday life.
“A camera is like a spray can to me. When I have a spray can, I want to go out and paint graffiti. In the same way, a camera pulls me into the streets. The spray can just became a camera—what I’m doing hasn’t changed.”
Side Effects of the City features photographs taken between 2019 and 2020.
All images were printed by YU CHANG himself in the darkroom, making this book not only a photographic record, but also a carefully crafted collection of darkroom prints—something to be experienced as a print-focused photo book.
