Carnitine-loaded thermogenic pre-workout with full-label transparency

Apollon Black Tulip is not a conventional pump pre-workout repackaged as a “fat burner.” It is a true thermogenic pre-workout designed around one central idea: raise energy expenditure, improve fatty-acid transport and oxidation, and create a harder-hitting training experience while you’re dieting. The formulation strategy is clear from the label. Instead of spending label space on common pump ingredients, Apollon built a fully disclosed, stimulant-driven thermogenic matrix around carnitine biology, brown-fat activation, glucose-partitioning support, and acute heat production.

The core starts with 2,000mg L-carnitine tartrate plus 1,000mg acetyl L-carnitine HCl. L-carnitine is central to mitochondrial fatty-acid transport, helping shuttle long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria for beta-oxidation. L-carnitine tartrate is the performance-oriented workhorse form used heavily in sports nutrition, while acetyl L-carnitine adds a more nootropic-leaning angle because the acetylated form crosses into neural tissue more efficiently. In practical terms, this combo supports both fat-use and a cleaner, more purposeful pre-workout feel.

Then Apollon stacks that with 60mg ProGBB®, an aggressive dose above the common 25-50mg research-backed use range. ProGBB is a direct precursor to carnitine and is famous for one thing users immediately notice: increased thermogenesis and heavy sweating. Here, it also makes sense mechanistically, because it amplifies the formula’s overall carnitine pool and works in the same fatty-acid transport lane as both carnitine ingredients.

MitoBurn™ at 1,000mg is another standout. The ingredient KB places the meaningful range at 500mg, so Black Tulip gives double that. L-BAIBA is an exercise-signaling metabolite tied to PGC-1α activity and the “browning” of white adipose tissue through UCP1 upregulation. Research is still emerging in humans, but the mechanism is compelling: it behaves like an exercise signal, promoting fatty-acid oxidation, ketone-related metabolic shifts, and insulin sensitivity support. This is one of the more forward-looking inclusions in the formula.

The thermogenic layer is loaded. Paradoxine® at 250mg is dramatically above the 30-40mg range commonly cited for standardized grains of paradise extracts, and it works through TRPV1 activation and brown adipose tissue thermogenesis. Capsimax® at 100mg lands at the top of its typical effective range and adds controlled-release capsaicinoids for increased energy expenditure and lipolysis with less GI irritation than raw pepper extracts. Synephrine HCl at 120mg is very aggressive and reinforces adrenergic fat-mobilization and appetite-control style effects. Caffeine anhydrous at 300mg provides the central drive and training energy, while Cocoabuterol® at 200mg adds a unique cocoa-derived beta-adrenergic and blood-flow-support angle. Its concentrated alkaloids are positioned to promote lipolysis through cAMP-PKA signaling with less harshness than many stimulant-only approaches.

InnoSlim® at 250mg is right at its studied dose and is one of the smartest inclusions here. It supports AMPK signaling, adiponectin activity, reduced glucose absorption, and increased glucose uptake into muscle tissue. That gives the formula a partitioning effect that complements the heat-and-sweat ingredients. Dandelion root extract 5:1 at 500mg rounds out the profile with a physique-focused water-management component, while AstraGin® at 50mg hits its full researched dose to support intestinal transporter expression and improve uptake of amino acids and phytonutrients.

As a system, Black Tulip is built to make you feel hotter, more alert, and more metabolically active before training, then reinforce that with ingredients that support fatty-acid transport, nutrient partitioning, and exercise-like metabolic signaling. Transparency is excellent: no proprietary blend, every active fully disclosed, which is still better than category norms in the thermogenic segment. Day 1, expect strong stimulant onset, warmth, increased perspiration, and appetite/energy elevation. Over 2-4 weeks of consistent use, the formula’s carnitine-focused base, InnoSlim®, and MitoBurn™ make more sense as repeat-use ingredients rather than one-hit novelties. This is an aggressive, well-thought-out thermogenic pre-workout for experienced users who want body-composition support to be built into the pre-training window.

Apollon Black Tulip by Apollon Nutrition contains 2000mg L-Carnitine Tartrate, a clinical dose for training performance and pump.

Key Highlights

  • 2,000mg L-Carnitine Tartrate — a serious dose of a staple fat-metabolism ingredient that helps transport long-chain fatty acids into mitochondria for beta-oxidation. In a thermogenic pre-workout, that matters because it gives the formula a real metabolic backbone instead of relying only on stimulants.
  • 1,000mg Acetyl L-Carnitine HCl — this adds another full gram of carnitine support in a form often favored for brain and nervous-system applications. The result is a formula that feels more purposeful than one-dimensional, combining metabolic support with a cleaner sense of alertness.
  • 1,000mg MitoBurn™ — double the 500mg clinical reference point provided in the ingredient knowledge base. L-BAIBA is an exercise-signaling metabolite linked to browning of white fat, increased fatty-acid oxidation, and improved metabolic signaling, making this one of the most progressive ingredients in the formula.
  • 250mg InnoSlim® — exactly at its studied dose, with research supporting AMPK activation, increased adiponectin, reduced glucose absorption, and greater muscle glucose uptake. That gives Black Tulip a nutrient-partitioning angle that many thermogenic powders completely miss.
  • 250mg Paradoxine® — far above the commonly referenced 30-40mg clinical range for grains of paradise extracts. This is one reason the formula feels hot: Paradoxine® stimulates brown adipose tissue thermogenesis through TRPV1 and UCP1-related pathways.
  • 100mg Capsimax® — right at the top of the established effective range for this controlled-release capsaicinoid ingredient. It raises resting energy expenditure and lipolysis while being designed to reduce the GI harshness associated with raw capsaicin.
  • 60mg ProGBB® — above the usual 25-50mg use range, and one of the most noticeable ingredients in the entire product. ProGBB® is a carnitine precursor known for producing a distinct thermogenic response and increased sweating, which advanced users often specifically seek out.
  • 300mg Caffeine Anhydrous — a strong single-source stimulant dose that delivers fast onset and dependable training energy. This is enough to create a clear pre-workout effect on its own, and here it acts as the central driver for the broader thermogenic stack.
  • 120mg Synephrine HCl 98% — an aggressive adrenergic dose that helps reinforce the formula’s appetite-control and fat-mobilization identity. This is not a casual inclusion; it materially changes who the formula is best suited for and pushes it firmly into advanced-user territory.
  • 200mg Cocoabuterol® — above the 100mg clinical reference point in the KB, delivering concentrated cocoa bioactives associated with beta-2 adrenergic activity, blood-flow support, and a smoother fat-loss-friendly stimulation profile. It’s a more interesting inclusion than generic cocoa extract and helps differentiate the formula from standard stimulant-heavy blends.
  • 500mg Dandelion Root Extract 5:1 — included for a physique-focused edge rather than raw performance. Users in cutting phases often appreciate the less-puffy, tighter look that strategic water-management ingredients can help support.
  • 50mg AstraGin® — the full dose commonly used to enhance nutrient absorption by increasing intestinal transporter expression. In a formula loaded with amino acid derivatives and plant actives, that makes practical sense and shows attention to formulation detail.

Who Is This For?

  • Experienced fat-loss dieters who still train hard and refuse to let their pre-workout become soft just because calories are low. The 300mg caffeine, 120mg synephrine, and 250mg Paradoxine® create the kind of energy and thermogenic drive that helps training intensity stay high while cutting.
  • Physique athletes in a leaning-out phase who want to look tighter and feel more switched on before sessions. The dandelion root extract adds a physique-oriented water-management element, while MitoBurn™, InnoSlim®, and the carnitine stack support a more metabolically focused formula than a standard stim pre.
  • Morning cardio users who want a supplement that actually feels thermogenic instead of just caffeinated. ProGBB®, Capsimax®, and Paradoxine® are specifically the kind of ingredients that increase heat production and sweating, making fasted steps, incline walking, or bike intervals feel meaningfully more productive.
  • Lifters who respond well to carnitine-based formulas and want more than a token 500mg label inclusion. Black Tulip gives 2g L-carnitine tartrate, 1g acetyl L-carnitine, and 60mg ProGBB®, creating one of the more serious fatty-acid-transport frameworks you’ll see in a thermogenic pre-workout.
  • Busy professionals training before work who need decisive onset and no ambiguity about whether the product is kicking in. With 300mg caffeine anhydrous plus a full thermogenic stack, this is built for users who want to feel alert, warm, focused on the session, and ready to move quickly.
  • High-stim pre-workout users who are bored with generic energy blends and want formula identity. Black Tulip doesn’t pretend to be everything at once; it is specifically engineered around thermogenesis, fat metabolism, and training drive, with trademarked ingredients used at serious levels.

How to Use

Start with 1/2 scoop mixed in 8-12 ounces of cold water to assess tolerance, then move to 1 full scoop in 12-16 ounces once you know how your body handles the stimulant and thermogenic load. Take it 20-30 minutes before training; that timing lines up well with caffeine absorption and gives ingredients like synephrine, Paradoxine®, Capsimax®, and ProGBB® time to begin creating the intended warmth and energy before the session starts. A shaker bottle is better than a spoon for more even dispersion, and colder water usually improves drinkability. If you are sensitive to harsh thermogenic formulas, taking it with a very light meal can reduce stomach intensity, though fasted use often makes the stimulant onset feel stronger. Do not combine it with other fat burners, high-caffeine nootropics, or stim-heavy pre-workouts unless you are deliberately adjusting total stimulant intake and know your tolerance. This stacks especially well with creatine monohydrate, an electrolyte product, and a dedicated intra- or post-workout protein strategy. Because stimulant tolerance builds over time, many users do well using it on training days only or cycling 6-8 weeks on with a short break, especially if the product stops feeling as sharp. Store tightly closed in a cool, dry place, and be extra mindful of hydration because the formula is designed to increase sweating.

What to Expect

Minutes 0-10: after mixing and drinking, the first thing most users notice is not immediate euphoria but a sense that a serious high-stim product is on the way. If taken on a relatively empty stomach, absorption tends to feel faster. Minutes 10-20: caffeine anhydrous begins to hit clearly, mental readiness rises, and the early thermogenic ingredients start building warmth. Minutes 20-40: this is where Black Tulip typically shows its identity—body temperature climbs, sweating increases, and the session feels more urgent and metabolically “on.” Minutes 40-90: energy remains strong, with the heat-producing stack still noticeable during resistance training or cardio, especially in warm environments. Days 1-7: users mainly learn their tolerance and how much thermogenesis and perspiration the formula creates for them personally. Weeks 2-4: the repeat-use ingredients—especially the carnitine stack, MitoBurn™, and InnoSlim®—make more sense as part of a sustained cutting routine rather than a one-off hit.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much caffeine is in Apollon Black Tulip?

A full 1-scoop serving delivers 300mg of caffeine anhydrous. That is a strong pre-workout dose on its own, and in Black Tulip it is further intensified by 120mg synephrine HCl plus non-stimulant thermogenics like Paradoxine®, Capsimax®, and ProGBB®.

Should I start with a full scoop?

No, most users should start with 1/2 scoop. Even though the serving can be split, this is still a high-stim formula with a strong thermogenic profile, so tolerance should be assessed carefully before moving to the full 1-scoop serving.

Is Black Tulip more of a pre-workout or a fat burner?

It is best understood as a thermogenic pre-workout. The 300mg caffeine gives it obvious pre-training energy, but the formula identity is clearly fat-loss focused because of the carnitine stack, MitoBurn™, InnoSlim®, Paradoxine®, Capsimax®, synephrine, and dandelion root.

What makes the carnitine profile in Black Tulip different?

Most formulas include one carnitine ingredient at a modest dose. Black Tulip uses 2,000mg L-carnitine tartrate, 1,000mg acetyl L-carnitine HCl, and 60mg ProGBB®, creating a much more serious approach to fatty-acid transport and carnitine biology.

What does MitoBurn™ do in this formula?

MitoBurn™ is L-BAIBA, an exercise-associated signaling metabolite. At 1,000mg—double the 500mg reference point in the KB—it is included to support browning of white adipose tissue, increase fatty-acid oxidation signals, and reinforce the product’s metabolic identity.

Will this make me sweat more?

For many users, yes—that is one of the intended effects. ProGBB®, Paradoxine®, and Capsimax® are all tied to increased thermogenesis, and Black Tulip is specifically formulated to feel hotter and more sweat-inducing than a standard pre-workout.

Can I stack Black Tulip with another fat burner?

Usually no, unless you are very experienced and carefully controlling total stimulant intake. With 300mg caffeine and 120mg synephrine already in the formula, adding another fat burner can make the overall sympathetic load excessive.

Can I use Black Tulip for fasted cardio?

Yes, experienced users often choose thermogenic formulas like this for fasted cardio because the stimulant onset and heat response can feel especially pronounced. Just be aware that taking it fasted can also intensify the experience, so 1/2 scoop is the smart place to start.

What is InnoSlim® doing in a thermogenic pre-workout?

InnoSlim® adds metabolic intelligence to the formula. At its full 250mg studied dose, it supports AMPK signaling, adiponectin, reduced glucose absorption, and improved glucose uptake into muscle, complementing the rest of the fat-loss stack.

Is this product beginner friendly?

No. The combination of 300mg caffeine, 120mg synephrine, and multiple thermogenics makes it more appropriate for advanced users with a known tolerance to high-stim products.

Very Comfortable
Great! I was a little concerned when it came so tightly shrink wrapped, but a day or two later and it’s in great shape. It’s actually pretty comfortable, good angle. It’s a good width and pretty long to accommodate all body types. I like it can be two heights. My adult kids said it felt like memory foam. I can add my own pillow too to further adjust to my liking. I occasionally get bad heartburn or sick where I need to sleep sitting up. This helps me do that in bed. I tried using it every night at first because I usually sleep with two large stacked pillows, but I’m a side sleeper and it eventually hurt my neck. So, not great if you sleep on your side. I also just lay a pillow case across it to keep clean. You can unzip and take off the cover for cleaning, but I almost never get stuff like that back on right. I got the dark gray cover and I like the soft feel. I’m glad I got it.

It is a great wedge pillow, but takes time to get used to sleeping on your back
Color: Dark Grey & White, Size: Adjustable 9&12 Inch + 1 Head Pillow
I bought this for post-surgery, I had to sleep on my back. Nearly impossible as a lifelong side sleeper. It is memory foam, and it does seem to run hot. But after a couple of weeks, I'm adjusting to it. Back sleeping is best for saving your face from AM wrinkles and mascara smears all over pillows. (Yes I know, I should take off mascara before bed, but....). Now that I've adjusted to sleeping with it, it stays on my bed and I wake up without the creases on my face and neck! So if you are buying pre-surgery, buy in advance to adjust to a new style of sleeping! I'm keeping it!

Misleading: Pillow Itself Has Only TWO Configurations!! >:(
Color: Black, Size: Adjustable 9&12 Inch + 1 Head Pillow
I was sold on the 10-Option bit until I realized there are only 2 choices as far as flooping and flopping the pillow itself. It is 2 triangles, a large one and a small one. The large triangle IS THE SAME ANGLE ON EACH END. The small triangle IS ATTACHED TO THE CENTER OF THE LARGE TRIANGLE. That means no matter how you move the pillow itself, you're getting the EXACT SAME THING. Where YOU come in is where all these infinity "versatility" options are - whether you put it upright or whether you put it flat. That's it. All this I can read in bed! I can play on my laptop! I can watch TV! Yeah that's upright. Option 1. And all this I can put it under my legs! I can use it as a normal pillow as well! That's flat. Option 2. There is absolutely nothing special or different about this thing except the stupid pocket. Had they not made the triangle the same angles on the end, had they made a steep angle and a low angle and that center pillow detachable but still velcro - THEN there would have been more elevation options. But this, I was highly disappointed. It's like saying, My bed has 360 options! (because I can lay 360 different degrees around the bed) AND 360 MORE BECAUSE GUESS WHAT! I CAN LAY ON MY STOMACH 360 DIFFERENT DEGREES around the bed! Oh! And on my side 360 degree different ways! Wait I have a left and a right side - the OTHER side I can lay on it around the bed 360 different degrees as well! And sitting cross-legged on the bed 360 different degree directions as well! So. No. It's a firm memory foam pillow. You lay upright or lay down or you put it under your legs or on your lap. It changes 2 ways and you make it work 4 ways. That's it. Yes it smells but not too bad, not foul, just persistently. Like a light chemical smell but it didn't aggravate me (I get scent, etc. migraines). It self-inflated pretty fast. But as you can tell, I was not impressed with it in reality. :(
