In 1761 ging het Afrikaanse meisje Phillis in Amerika van boord van een slavenschip. Phillis leerde al snel na haar aankomst de Bijbel lezen. Ze kreeg ook les in aardrijkskunde en geschiedenis. Toen ze dertien jaar was schreef ze een gedicht dat in een bekende krant werd geplaatst. Zes jaar later werden haar mooiste gedichten in een dichtbundel uitgegeven. Daarmee werd Phillis de eerste Afrikaans-Amerikaanse auteur van wie een boek verscheen. Phillis schrijft in haar gedichten dat iedereen recht heeft op vrijheid. Niemand mag vergeten dat alle mensen, zwart en wit, dezelfde Schepper hebben. Phillis vertrouwde erop dat God een bedoeling had met haar leven. Tegelijk kwam ze op voor rechtvaardigheid en voor het geluk van haar naasten. Ruim 250 jaar later is haar leven nog steeds een inspirerend voorbeeld voor jong en oud.

If you like it rough (enough)...

Perhaps a tad rough for some, the Caveem scrubbers are ideal for me- rough, but not cheese-grater-aggressive. I have been using the first of my two pack for almost three months and, beyond a slight "softening" of the surface, it is in perfect shape- no deformation, no open seams, no tears, thin spots, or defects of any kind. It looks and works like near-new. The sponge is a great size for man hands- basically 6" x 4", and is thick enough to hold ample soap and water to cover quite a bit of skin without reloading. The strap is comfortable and sturdy and, perhaps trivial, but the colors are manly without branding with skulls or wrenches or some other compensatory masculine iconography! I am very satisfied and if they ever wear out, I will happily purchase again.
