RAAF Patch Royal Australian Air Force Mirage IIIO End Of An Era Patch 1988 RAAF Base Williamstown And Butterworth

The Mirage IIIO was a single seat all weather fighter bomber aircraft for the Royal Australian Air Force. 100 aircraft were built with 98 were constructed under license in Australia. The first 49 were Mirage IIIO F interceptors followed by 51 Mirage IIIO A fighter bombers with survivors upgraded to a common standard later.

2 Operational Conversion Unit OCU at RAAF Base Williamstown began receiving the Mirage in 1964 with 75 Squadron becoming the first operational unit to equip with the Mirage fighter in 1965 followed by 76 Squadron in 1966. The first two seater Mirage IIID was accepted by the RAAF at RAAF Avalon on 10 November 1966 followed by a further nine over the next year.

In 1967 3 Squadron became the first unit to equip with the ground attack Mirage. In 1969 77 Squadron re-equipped and became the fourth RAAF Mirage squadron.

Six additional Mirage IIID trainers were delivered from August 1973 to January 1974 and enabled the retirement of the Sabre from operational fighter training.

The Whitlam Government defense cuts led to the disbandment of 76 Squadron in August 1973 with the remaining three squadrons continued operating the Mirage in air defense and ground attack based at RAAF Williamstown and RAAF Butterworth.

Several Mirage aerobatic teams were formed by 77 Squadron with the Deltas in 1971 followed by the Miracles in 1976 and athree-aircraft team of red white and blue aircraft for the 1981 air shows.

As 2 OCU began to transition to the F/A-18 Hornet in 1984 their Mirages were transferred to 77 Squadron ending up with some 40 on its strength making it the largest fighter squadron ever in the RAAF. In March 1986 79 Squadron activated at RAAF Butterworth with 3 Squadrons Mirages when they began conversion to the Hornet. 77 Squadron finally relinquished their Mirages in November 1987 converting to Hornets.

79 Squadron operated the Mirage until disbanding in April 1988 leaving only 75 Squadron at RAAF Darwin and Aircraft Research and Development Unit ARDU at RAAF Edinburgh as the remaining Mirage operators. In early September 1988 75 Squadron flew a formation of Mirages over the east coast state capitals as a farewell tour before the Squadron ceased Mirage operations on 30 September 1988. In October 1988 the remaining 75

Squadron Mirages were ferried to RAAF Woomera. The last RAAF Mirage flight was on 8 February 1989 when A3-101 was flown from ARDU at RAAF Edinburgh to RAAF Woomera to join 47 of the type in storage pending their disposal. In 1990 Pakistan purchased fifty RAAF Mirages including two stored at RAAF Point Cook.

I got 6 years use out of it and just re-ordered a new one! Best grill cover I’ve ever purchased.
Size: 50 Inch, Color: black, Size: 50 Inch, Color: black
Very durable! I noticed earlier this spring that mine was starting to rip after several strong spring wind storms. I knew I had had it for several years but I wasn’t sure how long. I went in my orders page and saw that I ordered it back in 2020 so I got 6 years out of it!! Note that it stays outside on the deck all year round, and that includes during Northeast US winters with frigid temperatures and snow and I only now started to see the tears in it this spring. The tear started at the top of the grill, and actually started falling apart more after I touched it. Refer to the attached photos of mine after 6 years. I think it’s very durable for sitting outside for 6 years and only now only starting to show wear . You can also see how it didn’t really fade despite getting full afternoon sunlight. The velcro ties at the bottom, are also a plus as far as getting it to stay in place and not blow off. That’s why I definitely just repurchased the same one. Hopefully, I will get at least 6 years out of the new one when it arrives tomorrow.

Water Shoes for 3-Week Trip to Amazon, Machu Picchu and the Galapagos
Size: 10.5, Color: Blue/Grey
Bought these shoes (along with a pair of Merrell Gore-TEX Moab Speed 2 GTX) for a three-week trip through some pretty eclectic weather and terrain. I selected these over some much more expensive brands and was very happy with my decision. I typically wear a size 11 athletic shoe (I measure a 10.5), but the 11–11.5 Humtto shoes were way too large and good not get a good fit. I returned that pair, and downsized to the 10.5. They fit me perfectly. Before leaving on the trip I used them to work out at the gym and do some light hiking. They were first seriously tested in the Amazon. The soles provide pretty darn good traction, and they can be worn with or without socks. Because of their hiking and quick drying capabilities, I ended up using these shoes about 50% of the trip. They look great, are comfortable, can be adjusted for fit, and have a decent (medium) arch and heel padding. They are not zero drop from heel to toe, but pretty close. The EVA midsole and memory foam insole for cushioning is great, but do not make the mistake I made by heating it on a heater to accelerate drying. It warped the insole a bit (they are still usable). These are great and survived some pretty extensive testing throughout Peru and Ecuador. If you are stepping into some pretty questionable conditions, these sure are a great back up to your hiking shoes when it may get sloshy and dry shoes are required for the next day.

Excellent shoes for what you’re buying them.
Size: 12, Color: Black
My 2nd pair of this brand. These are awesome. Easy to come off and get on. They stay cool in the summer, they are comfortable with or without socks. I use them in lake and pool, and they still look new. Very inexpensive, and for a change they look actually nicer in person than in the photos. I dont know how they would be doing any athletics but for everything else, including walking a lot and standing for hours, they worked great.

Surprisingly awesome!
Size: 10.5, Color: Dark Gray/Beige
I have only been wearing these for a few days so I may have to revise the review over time, but so far these shoes are absolutely outstanding. If you owned and enjoyed the original Salomon TechAmphibians, later ruined with new designs by the maker, these are their natural heirs. I took a chance on these shoes since the design is very similar. They are lightweight and comfortable and they provide great footbed support whether loose or tightly laced. Like the early TechAmphibians, they also have the cool feature of a collapsing heel upper, allowing their use as slides. They are also half the price that the Salomons sold even 10 or more years ago. The sole has an aggressive tread pattern and is quite grippy wet or dry. I measure as 10.5 D on the shoe size device but almost no shoes in that size fit me in the last few years. I got the 11-11.5 size first but it was swimming on me. 10.5 fits well with a bit of extra room so I can wear them with or without socks.

Great shoes
Size: 10, Color: Grey, Size: 10, Color: Grey
I got 2 pairs of these specifically for a water rafting trip. The first pair was a little large, so I went down a half size ( and gave the larger pair to my son). They are comfortable, even for wide feet - although after a long day of use in the water, there was some chaffing on the outsides of my feet. It loosened up a bit across my wide foot, after getting wet. These worked great! They have adjustable strap across the back, that pulls tight on the outside. the laces are elastic and tighten by pulling and then pushing the stopper down onto the laces. They didn't slip (loosen) but, to get them tight, I had excessive amount of laces hanging out (had to tuck them into the tongue.
