This shrub growing to 10 feet shows off its crimson crepe paper-like 2-inch long tubular flowers in the late fall season. Native to Mexico and Central America this easy to grow shrubs are excellent, hardy, and long-lived perennials with huge flower power. Shade tolerant, deer resistant, moderately salt-tolerant, and somewhat drought resistant once they are well-established and few plants are more adaptable. Your Turk's Caps needs a well-draining, moderately fertile soil, preferably with at least 4-6 hours a day of direct sunlight. The more sunlight they get the larger the plants tend to be and the more flowers they produce. The only maintenance for Turk's Cap is to prune away the dead branches in winter where they freeze to near the ground and to mulch them as needed. Where they don't freeze back, hard late-winter pruning will act as a renewal and may help to rid them of overwintering pests as well as to keep them full and in bounds. Hardy in zones 7b-11.
