This is the kind of chain that we know we'll dream about after we package it up and send it off to you; it's just everything we want from a chunky Victorian gold watch chain. And in heavy 14k, these dreamboats are getting harder and harder to find.
Beginning right smack dab in the middle of the industrial revolution, these delicious fancy link watch chains were out in society in full force, securing your pocket watch and teasing you with the perfect ode to the handmade and the machine-made in one gorgeous package. While this special chain was made a few decades after the Industrial revolution officially ended, its influence is keenly felt in the way that it marries long trombone-meets-railroad links with delightfully detailed hardware stations that reference the inner-workings of that special watch in your pocket it was meant to secure. Form-meets-function bliss in heavy 14k gold.
At 16 inches, this beauty is a great choker length for those with smaller necks, and a wonderful base for a mixed-chain neck stack for those who prefer a looser fit. One of her former custodians modified the dog clip into a hook rather than a traditional clip. We have left it that way because we were surprised to find it easier to fasten on these links than a clip, well-balanced and very secure. That said, we'd be happy to switch it out for a more traditional dog clip if you prefer.
Details:
- Late Victorian watch chain, circa 1880-1890
- 14k gold (tested) with rose undertones
- 62.49g
- 16.5" from dog clip to end of tbar, wears like 16"
- links are 10mm at widest point
Please note: this chain is in very good antique condition, but few of the links have wear that evidence its long and busy life--a quality we value as part of the unique story it has to tell!
