LeBLANC, Maurice. Arsène Lupin. From the Play by Maurice Leblanc and Francis de Croisset. London: Mills and Boon. 1909.

8vo. Original black cloth, titles to spine gilt and to front board in red, small photographic portrait of Gerald Du Maurier to front board, with the very rare printed dust-jacket; pp. [vi], 344, 32 (Mills and Boon Catalogue); spine ends gently rubbed, edges lightly foxed, dust jacket browned, especially spine panel, a few nicks, chips and tears, and repairs to verso; overall an excellent copy.

First edition, issued not before 1913, of this English translation of LeBlanc’s novel, with a photographic portrait of the English actor Gerald Du Maurier as Lupin to the front cover, in excellent condition and retaining the very rare dust jacket.

The story originally appeared as a four-part play by Maurice LeBlanc and Francis de Croisset, a Belgian-born French playwright and opera librettist. Titled Arsène Lupin, the play premiered on 28 October 1908 at the Théâtre de l’Athénée in Paris, and met with considerable success. The following year, it was translated into English and performed at the Duke of York’s Theatre in London, with Gerald Du Maurier in the role of Lupin. The play was subsequently adapted into a novel by LeBlanc and published in French in 1909. The same year saw the release of this English translation by Edgar Jepson, author of adventure and detective fiction.

This 1909 first edition of Arsène Lupin includes a 1913 Mills and Boon catalogue bound at the end, and a brief list of ‘new novels’ from the same period facing the title page. These subsequent advertisements suggest that the publishers did not sell out the entire initial print run immediately. Instead, they retained some printed sheets to be bound and released at a later date, as demand rose.

Great toy!!!
Style: Original
My dog went mental over this ball!!! She will let me roll it through the backyard or in the house and she will go nuts for it but the great part, she will play by herself with this ball. She will roll it and jump on it and just have a blast. Since this is not a normal chew toy, my dog's big, she only gets it when I'm with her. It kind of makes it our special thing when I pull it out. We play every day with it and her enthusiasm has never lessened. She can be in another room when I take it out of the cabinet and the second she hears it, she will run into walls in her rush to get to me so we can play! It really is better than just throwing a ball back and forth. She's completely engaged the entire time it's out. I highly recommend it but just know it's not a normal toy that you can just throw to your dog and walk away. It is an amazing toy to help you bond with your pet.

Great for dogs that need to stay busy
Style: Original
My dog absolutely loves this ball. It is a little noisy so we take it out in the yard and let her play with it there. I highly recommend it if you have a dog that get bored easily. This will surely keep them busy.

Fun for the Dogs and Kids
Style: Original
My dog seems to love this ball. Super sturdy for an aggressive chewer. Easy to play with. Makes the tube sound when it rolls which keeps the dogs attention well. Super fun. It’s made out of hard plastic so it’s not soft at all. Can take this anywhere.

Fun little ball!
Fun little ball! Glad I got the football version the regular ball would be a choking hazard for my Great Dane. The ball rolls and shakes on the floor which at first was scary, but now she loves it! She nudges it all over the floor to keep it moving, keeping her entertained for a bit.

Won't hold charge
Unfortunately the toy would not hold charge. I charged it for couple hours and it wouldn't turn on. I tired a different charger to be safe and still nothing. Was hoping to share this exciting toy with my pup, guess I'll keep looking for alternative.
