You can use a wick trimmer or a straight edge nail clipper, just be careful not to go too low to risk drowning the fire. If you do go too low, you can melt a small pool of wax around the base and soak it up with a paper towel. Packaging is a mess and product requires force to put parts together

Packaging is awful, makes a complete mess. The product itself is okay, the little rods that come with it don't slide in easily and force you to scrape the metal with them when you install it , not the greatest design. Instructions also are not the best. Also, why are the holes to hang the shelf at the bottom?? Doesn't make much sense
