An excellent, large-volume composters made for community groups, schools and businesses.
  • Strong, galvanised and built to last.
  • We: Unfold, line internally with vermin mesh, line the base, add a lid, deliver to you, activate and water.
  • You: Add your paper, cardboard and organic waste, cover with mulch and water.

Close your loop/sequest your carbon/make compost and benefit from the embodied energy.

Tips on managing your stillage cage composter

  1. Locate your composter in a shady spot. Composters get hot inside anyway and shade for workers makes life more comfortable. Adaptation at its best!
  2. Ideally, get two composters and put them next to each other. It may take 4-6 weeks after you finish filling before your compost is mature and PH neutral for your garden.
  3. Patience grows with time grasshopper, and while waiting for your first pay day, activate and start using your second composter.
  4. Minimise adding putrid food waste/bad microbes into your composter.
  5. Keep your food waste relatively fresh before adding to your composter, as this helps feed effective microbes.
  6. Fill your composter in layers. Food waste, compost, food waste, etc.
  7. Always finish with a layer of compost to cover your food waste and then water well.
  8. Appreciate that the ratio of food waste to compost doesn't matter too much. Nature will deal with it. As long as you have a good mix of carbon (mulch, paper, cardboard) and nitrogen (food scraps, mower grass, etc) everything will be fine.
  9. Turn your composter weekly. This can be safely done insitu with a battery operated auger/post hole digger with a kick back function. Always use with adult supervision.
  10. If you want to pick up food waste and deliver to your composter, 120L wheelie bins are a great buddy. Wear gloves, empty the bulk by hand, hook bin on stillage cage edge, grab base and flip wheelie bin. A safe and easy mini workout.
  11. Dont overload your wheelie bins! They may be 120L in capacity/volume, but they can only handle about 35kg in weight. Inside, you will notice a line about half way up. Don't go beyond this and your wheelie bin will be your work buddy for a long time.
  12. How long it takes to fill your composter depends on you.
  13. Enjoy the journey. Best shared with others for a mutual benefit. Pay day is when you all get together and empty your composter. Have a well laid plan and seedlings ready to go. Add your black gold/compost to your no-dig-garden and plant, water and mulch.
  14. Celebrate everything.

Excellent (slightly) spooky read
Format: Hardcover
Another great read by Meg Eden Kuyatt. I am not much of a scary books fan, but this one was so good. I especially loved that the main character has autism and we learn so much through how different members of her family treat her.

Fun educational book
Format: Hardcover, Format: Hardcover
This book is a big hit! My 5 year old son and I read it so many times since we ordered this in April. It has cute illustration and 60 flaps and pop-ups which make the book even more exciting. And because of this, I don’t recommend this book to young kids under 3 though. Some flaps might be tricky for younger kids. Even I as a parent learned so much about construction.

Great book, but the other book of the same author is much better
Format: Hardcover
This is a very high quality book, chock a block full of information about construction sites, with lots of imaginative flaps, things that swivel, move, and fold. HOWEVER...it is not as good as "The Ultimate Book of Vehicles" by the same author. The "Vehicles" book is more appropriate for kids 3 years and up: It is still full of awesome flaps, swivels, and things that move, but it is simpler, with pictures of the vehicle, the name of the vehicle, and maybe a few names of the parts of the vehicle. You open up a flap to see inside, make it move, etc. My son found it very interesting. The "Construction" is really aimed for older kids, I'm guessing 5 and up, maybe even older. There are just so many words on the page, and so much information. The flaps are not as interesting as the previous book, and I found many of the moving parts to be "sticky", and my 3 year old ripped quite a few out within a week of reading the book. We have not ripped anything from the "Vehicle" book. So I would say if you have an older kid who wants to gain a lot of knowledge about construction sites, this book is for you. But if you have a younger child (3 and up, any younger and they'd destroy the book), get the "Vehicle" book.

So Much Fun And Very Informative
Format: Hardcover, Format: Hardcover
This book has been a winner in our house since it arrived. Each page has so many flaps, spins, pulls and movement. So many new words and easy explanations for the kids. The pictures are beautifully designed and each time we look through it we find more details we missed! The book is an excellent purchase and definitely worth every penny!
